Meet Rimrock's Staff

Pastoral & Preaching Team

Bill, Pat, Steve, Mike

Our senior pastor, Steve Balsley, (steve@rimrockchurch.com) through his God-given uniqueness, brings a heart to serve, an ability to lead, sincere desire to follow the Spirit, and intense hunger and ability to study and teach God’s Truth. A combination which serve well in this leadership position. Steve grew up in Rapid City and has gone to Rimrock for many years. Early in his walk with Christ he felt the call to become a pastor. He has been a teacher at Eternal Investments men’s study for many years, as well as teaching ABF’s here at Rimrock. He is married to Marsha and they have 4 daughters; 2 are married and two are in high school.

Pat Karn and Bill Ewing are a part of the Preaching and Adult Equipping Teams. Their part time status brings incredible experiential wisdom, teaching, training, and insight into God’s discipling process at Rimrock as they bring years of experience to the leadership team. Both are counselors at Christian Life Ministries and bring a wealth of practical biblical application to their teachings. Bill is married to Nancy and they have 3 grown boys and 2 granddaughters. Pat is married to Connie and they have 3 grown children and 1 grandson.

Mike Hays (mikeh@rimrockchurch.com) moved to the Black Hills and came on staff as the Associate Pastor at Rimrock in 1989. After 10 years in the business community, he followed God’s call to apply his management experience within the church community. With his background and love for God’s people, Mike’s primary ministry is helping manage God’s resources at Rimrock as he oversees the adult ministries to encourage, disciple, and guide them into their areas of God’s call as well as physical property and finance teams.

Youth Ministry Team

Interim Youth Pastor: Nate Kveene focuses on discipling the high school students in Wed. nights. Nate grew up in Rapid City and went away to Moody Bible Institute for college. After returning to Rapid City, he interned as a Youth Pastor at First Evangelical Free Church before joining Rimrock as a part time, interim youth pastor.
Youth Assistant: Michelle Westvig focuses on discipling the middle school girls, but is also a huge asset within the leadership team. Michelle attended Rimrock in the 1990’s, moved away for 10 years and then returned in 2006. She has been teaching kids and teens for 20 years. Her passion is to have girls connect with each other & the Lord. She is married to Sherman and they have one teenage daughter, Megan. (michellew@rimrockchurch.com)
Assisting Nate & Michelle are several gifted men & women who love to invest in teens, share God's Truths and develop relationships with them. Additional leaders include Drew Foley, Nic Ewing, Evan Hays, Terry Nordine, Stephanie Alexander, Julie Broberg & Dawn Wattenhofer

Gloria Whites, Preschool Coordinator

Dee Hays and Gloria Whites

Dee Hays came with to Rimrock with her husband Mike and has attended since 1989. She came on staff as the Children’s Ministry Director in 2001. Formerly an Elementary & Special Ed school teacher, she brings a love for the children and a heart to win them to Jesus at a young age. She is gifted in teaching & motivating her volunteers to “love & good deeds”. Dee oversees all the children’s ministry weekly activities as well as any special events for the kids. She primarily works with the elementary age kids on Sunday. She is thrilled to be a grandma and loves being with her family.

Gloria came on staff as the Preschool Coordinator in 2005. She loves the little ones & uses the talents God has given her to teach & nurture those from 3 years thru kindergarten. She is also a certified Pilates instructor (in her spare time). She is married to Doug and they love living in the Black Hills.

Amber Higgins, Nursery Coordinator
Amber Higgins recently joined the staff as the Nursery Coordinator. She has attended Rimrock for 5 years and has helped in the nursery all these years. She has three small children and has a heart to carry her love for children into the Nursery. She is married to Jimmy, and together they are raising Jeshua, Julianna, & Jerald.

Tom Haggerty, Worship Leader
Tom has attended Rimrock for almost 20 years and has been involved with the music ministry at various times. He now has the great privilege of leading the family at Rimrock in musical praise of our loving Father. His ministry would not be possible without the incredible group of musicians and singers God has surrounded him with, each of whom is his friend. He is married to Terri and they have 2 grown children, Patrick & Deidre. In his free time he enjoys exercise and hanging with his wife Terri and friends. His favorite verse is: 1 Peter 4:10 "As each has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.

Nancy Hawke

Nancy Hawke has attended Rimrock since 1988 and been on staff since 1996. She is an Administrative Assistant working primarily with the finances & church family records. She is the one who always wants to know your current phone number & address for the church directory. She has been married to Jim for 41 years and they are happy to have their daughter, son-in-law (Jen & John Looby) and grandchildren (Nick & Rachel) live in Rapid City and attend Rimrock Church.

Chris Bailey has been the Administrative Assistant in the church office since 2002. She primarily handles the church promotion; bulletins, newsletters, mailings, church calendar etc. She is the person you call when you want a notice in the bulletin or newsletter. She moved to Rapid City in 2001 from Albuquerque, NM. She has been married to Glenn for 19 years and they have 2 teenagers; Zach & Stephanie.

Vicki Franzen, the newest staff member, joined us in April 2007; as the Administrative Assistant for the Worship & Adult Ministries. She produces the power points you see each week & the songs. She is the one you go to when there is a misspelled word on the screen. She has attended Rimrock since 1993. She earned a degree in Mining Engineering & retired after 16 years in that field. She has been married to Mike for 27 years & they have one teenager daughter, Kim.
