SOUTH OF THE BORDER (SOTB)

Thanks Rimrockers for being a part of what God has been doing since 1997 through South of the Border ministries. You have blessed many Latin Americans through your prayers and financial support. A special thanks to the 120 folks who walked on foreign soil for Christ. In those 12 years . . . . many have placed their faith in Jesus Christ, Christian nationals were encouraged & resourced to share Christ’s love within their communities. 18 different teams represented Christ in Venezuela, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, or Mexico and many Rimrock lives were transformed by their experience as well. And since SOTB’s goal is partnering with Latin ministries/leaders, prayerfully seeds planted will continue to grow.

Since 2006, Rimrock SOTB team has partnered with Costa Rican UNILIC Ministry in training pastors and planting churches. Watching God’s plan for UNILIC has been incredible. Since her inception in 2001, 100’s of CR pastors (all denominations) have been trained & over 40 churches are now a part of UNILIC. And now God is opening doors for them to train pastors in most Central America countries, Mexico, Brazil, and even Cuba (800 pastors). The potential impact on Latin American pastors is mindboggling as they follow the Spirit’s lead.

Since we see God using UNILIC we want to continue investing in His ministry thru them. So after conversations with Pastors Jose & Eduardo, we believe God is asking Rimrock to send 5 teams into Central America. . . certainly a huge number. But the teams focus on a requested need, assist in pastoral training (UNILIC’s #1 request), and give Rimrockers with different experiences, expertise, & giftedness a chance to be international missionaries.

Here are the SOTB Teams we plan to send in 2009-10

  • Assisting Pastor Ricardo in a rural, mountainous Nicaragua village to help meet community needs (establish aVeterinary clinic, seamstress business and bakery) providing a platform for his church to share Christ. Team: Westvigs, Blacklers, and Donovan & Jori Broberg. (Nov 13-20)
  • Providing a January Costa Rica Pastor-Wife Retreat. Since the 2008 retreat had such an impact, the Karns & Haggertys are heading back to teach on Communication in Marriage. 36 UNILIC couples are signed up so far.
  • Continuing Leadership Training for UNILIC Pastors. The Bakers, Voights, & Wilkenings have been asked to return to CR in May to help train a new group of pastors plus spend time with national leadership.
  • Helping finish Construction on the House of Prayer Church in March, a UNILIC church in rural Costa Rica. Pastor Marvin, former police officer, needs help with his 3rd church plant. Further organization of the team will take place in December. Contact Mike Hencey or Terry Cash for more information.
  • Initiating a Free Spirit Artisans Ministry to train UNILIC pastors in their craftsmanship as a means for income & opportunity to reach into their communities. Leadership: Brian Peck, Andrew Vig, & Dan Haggerty.
